Meet Mykala,

Writer, strategist, and creator
of Still Unlearning

A letter from my notebook

I’ve always found comfort in words.

In my loneliest moments, words have always given shape to my raw emotions and the language to make sense of the clutter inside my mind and the world around me.

As a child, words came to me through made-up stories and a deep relationship with the word “why.” Today, as both a writer and brand strategist, I use words to build worlds, craft insights, and articulate strategies.

I guess some things you just never outgrow.

When I think about the four years I’ve spent with Still Unlearning, I always wish I had a more motivational reason for starting it. Something like an experience that moved me to action, or a deep desire to inspire others through my so-called “sage wisdom.” Instead, this platform began as a simple call into the ether, just to see if anyone else was there or if I was alone in my experiences. I wasn’t.

That discovery is what makes Still Unlearning more than just a publication; it’s living proof that somebody other than you has been there. It’s documentation that, in some places, I’m still there. It’s an in-real-time record written from inside a world I’m still understanding.

These essays, insights, and notes are snapshots of what it means, to me, to be human.

I often describe this work as the POV from a case study of one, but as this platform has grown, it’s continuously reminded me that I’m just one piece of a larger conversation. A storyline within a united narrative. Unraveling that narrative is what drives me to want to understand what we value, what we repeat, what we buy into, and why. It drives me to rethink what’s visible and challenge what’s expected. Underneath it all lives one question:

What else don’t I know?

I welcome you into this space to unlearn and question what we’ve inherited, together. So read an essay, follow a reference, wander into the notes. My hope is that you find something that leaves you with more questions than answers.

You can find all my essays on Substack, where you can subscribe to stay up to date, but this site offers a deeper look inside my brain. Part archive, part inquiry, this space is made to collect what lives in between the margins.

I’m glad you’re here.
